2019 - Motorway Works (Surrey).

Project Details.


A national infrastructure project to expand an existing 3 lane motorway in to a 4 lane lane smart motor way.


The motorway section in question was understood to be used by over 180,000 drivers each day and provided links to London and the south of England.


The project cost was estimated to be approximately £164m.


Site Details.


The site covered approximately 11 miles of motorway both northbound and southbound.


A mix of habitats existed including semi-improved grassland, copse and other small woodland areas, hedgerows and dense scrub, ruderals, numerous water bodies, wet & dry ditches and raised bund areas and earth mounds.



Responsibilities and work undertaken.


Acting within a team of site ECoWs (Advisory).


Supervision the clearance of vegetation and trees.

Supervise the installation and removal of amphibian and reptile fencing.

Conduct reptile surveys and assist in translocation issues.

Manage the deployment of bat boxes throughput the site.

Conduct dormouse survey where required.

Oversee the turf stripping and top soil removal works. 


Regular meetings with the project Environmental Manager to discuss works completed and those in progress.
