2023 - Major Infrastructure (Suffolk).

Project Details.


A critical infrastructure project estimated to cost between £20-£30 billion and based based on the Suffolk coast.


The site was subject to various ecological issues and both remediation and mitigation factors were put in place.


The main project goal was for the safe capture and translocation of reptile and amphibian species that were found throughout the site.



Site Details.


The entire site covered approximately 70 hectares and was divided in to two distinct and separate areas.


A total 1430 refugia mats were laid throughout the sites and each mat was checked twice daily by a team of ecologists.


Translocations were made to nearby sites the size of which were capable of supporting the release of the numerous Adder, Grass snake, Lizard, Slow worm and amphibian species that were subsequently captured.


Responsibilities and work undertaken.


Lead Ecologist & ECoW (Authoritative).

Lead of team of up to four Assistant Ecologists.


Conduct twice daily surveys and translocate captured specimens to suitable receptor sites.

Assist in ongoing training and mentoring of staff.

Resolve ecological issues while on site with pragmatic solutions.

Daily reporting to Project Manager.

Communicate effectively with contractors and/or sub-contractors.

Offer advice and support on protected species.
